Tongits isn't just a card game — it's a Filipino tradition. PrimoGame brings that same exciting neighbourhood laro online, with real-money stakes, fast GCash payouts, and thousands of players ready to challenge you any hour of the day.
About the Game
If you grew up in the Philippines, chances are you've played Tongits at a family gathering, on a lazy Sunday afternoon, or with friends after a long week. It's one of the most beloved card games in the country — right up there with Pusoy Dos and Lucky 9. Tongits is a three-player rummy-style game played with a standard 52-card deck, and the goal is simple: get rid of all your cards before your opponents do.
The game was popularised in Ilocos Norte in the early 1990s and quickly spread throughout Luzon and eventually the whole archipelago. Today, Tongits is played in every corner of the Philippines — from the streets of Binondo to the beaches of Coron — and now, thanks to PrimoGame, you can play it online for real money against players from across the country.
What makes Tongits so special compared to other card games is the blend of luck and strategy. You need to read your opponents, manage your hand carefully, and know when to declare — or when to hold back and wait for a better draw. It's a mental game as much as a card game, and that's exactly why Filipinos have loved it for decades.
Rules & Mechanics
Whether you're a first-timer or just need a refresher, here's everything you need to know to sit down at a PrimoGame Tongits table.
Tongits is always played by exactly three players. Each player is dealt 12 cards at the start (the dealer gets 13). The remaining cards form the draw pile in the centre of the table.
On your turn, draw a card from the pile or take the top discard. Form melds — sets of three or more same-value cards, or runs of three or more consecutive same-suit cards — and lay them down. End your turn by discarding one card.
Win by emptying your hand completely — that's a Tongits! If the draw pile runs out or a player calls a "fight", the player with the lowest unmelded card value wins the round and takes the pot.
You can play a card onto an opponent's or your own existing meld on the table. This is called Sapaw. It's a key strategic move — reduce your hand size while disrupting your opponents' plans.
Any player who has at least one meld on the table can call a fight at any time. All players reveal their remaining cards, and the player with the lowest total card value wins. Timing your fight call is everything.
If a player has no melds on the table when a fight is called or the draw pile is exhausted, they are "burnt" — they automatically lose the round regardless of their card count. Watch out for this, especially early in the game.
Scoring & Combinations
Understanding card point values and valid combinations is the key to building a strong Tongits strategy on PrimoGame. Here's a quick reference for all the combinations you can lay down during a game.
| Combination | Description | Cards Needed | Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Three of a Kind (Set) | Three cards of the same rank (e.g., three Kings) | 3+ | Meld |
| Four of a Kind | All four cards of the same rank on the table | 4 | Strong Meld |
| Straight Run (Sequence) | Three or more consecutive same-suit cards (e.g., 5♠ 6♠ 7♠) | 3+ | Meld |
| Tongits (Full Empty) | Player empties entire hand — instant win of the pot | All cards | Instant Win |
| Sapaw | Adding a valid card to an existing meld on the table | 1+ | Hand Reduce |
Card Point Values: Aces = 1 pt, number cards = face value (2–10), Jack/Queen/King = 10 pts each. When a fight is called or the draw pile runs out, each player's unmelded hand is totalled. Lowest total wins.
"Never hold onto high-value cards like Kings and Queens too long hoping to form a set. If the draw pile is running low and you haven't melded them, they'll cost you the round."
"Watch your opponents' discards closely. If two players have already discarded Kings, don't wait for that fourth King — it's gone."
"Calling a fight too early is a common mistake for beginners. Make sure you have a genuinely lower count than both opponents before you call — one wrong read and you pay double."
